The historic Telemark Canal takes Arne, Frida, and Stig deep into the interior of Norway, offering a journey back in time. In today’s episode, they explore the region's hospitality and delve into stories of heavy water and the Second World War. To cap it off, they trek through a mountain to reach the summit of Telemark. Frida prepares some intriguing treats, while Stig crafts a dry martini to celebrate this unique region of Norway.

Rjukan Admini Hotel

Nutheim – art, food and history
Nutheim Gjestgiveri is a small family-run wooden hotel in Telemark. The hotel has been in the family since 1917 and is still operational as of this day. Art and culture are prioritized within our halls, because it was here in Nutheim many of our most prominent artists have come for inspiration for decades. Gaustadbanen – a funicular inside the mountain
Gaustabanen, a railway built inside the might Gaustadtoppen mountain, as a Nato project in 1959. On the top here was a large radar station,
The railroad is steep, up to 47 degrees and only opened for tourists as late as 2010.
Rjukan and Vemork
The town of Rjukan rose in a few years thanks to the taming of the waterfalls building industry history on hydropower. It is also the site for one of the most important sabotage operations during world war two, where local young men from the resistance successfully deprived Nazi-Germany in getting heavy water for atomic bombs.
Henrik Ibsen – on the Telemark Canal
The Telemark Canal was carved into the mountain terrain well more than 100 years ago, and by the opening in 1892 it was labelled “the 8th wonder of the world” by Europeans.
